Biological Mom, Step-child, Blended Family Member, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist*, Blended Family Coach

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH BLENED FAMILIES
Being raised in a blended family, Lisa understands the most critical measures parents can take to increase the likelihood of a joyful family-life experience. Lisa is aware of the most significant challenges created by stepfamily dynamics and considers multiple solutions to these challenges. In helping the parents navigate their own and their children's new life, she informs parents about how children in stepfamilies struggle with losses, loyalty binds, and change—encouraging them to nurture healthy attachment bonds with their children.

Parents in stepfamilies may need help providing an empathic presence for their children to help re-regulate distress. If misguided, children can develop unhelpful ways of coping due to unresolved attachment injuries, which could even extend into their adulthood. And as adults, unresolved attachment injuries from childhood inform our perceptions and emotions in our romantic relationships.

Lisa also helps couples take an honest look at blended family structure. The adults coming together with all the good intent in the world often get polarized around emotionally loaded parenting issues. Lisa works with these parents in forging a new family culture in the midst of a jumble of already existing but unspoken expectations.

LIFE EXPERIENCE
Beyond formal education, Lisa understands the effort to build a fulfilling relationship. She has been married for 18 years to someone from a different culture and race than her own. She is also a mom of two boys - 11 & 16.
Furthermore, Lisa has personally overcome significant adversity, ranging from a dysfunctional childhood home life and anorexia. She is equipped with hard-earned wisdom and can guide her clients from their interpersonal, intrapsychic, or circumstantial distress to their desired outcomes.
